Dr. Rupinder Toor

Founder & Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Rupinder Toor is a dynamic Family Physician, speaker and thought leader in the areas of long acting contraception and culturally competent health care. In 2007 she established a women’s health clinic in the heart of northeast Calgary, where she grew up. She is the Medical Director and Founder of The IUD and Northeast Calgary Women’s Clinic, which has provided care to over 100,000 women. Dr. Toor completed her BSc (Honours) in Biochemistry and medical degree (MD) at the University of Calgary, followed by Family Medicine training at the University of Western Ontario. A TEDx Calgary speaker, she and her team successfully advocated for universal access to free prescription contraception in Canada in 2024. Nationally recognized for her work, Dr. Toor has received numerous awards, including the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Calgary Board of Education Legacy Award, and was named the Cumming School of Medicine Alumna of Distinction.

Ria graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Biomedical Sciences. She joined Project EmpowHer in 2020 as the Youth Ambassador Coordinator.

Her passion for women’s and children’s health is reflected through her work with the All Our Families (AOF) Study and as a clinical aid at the IUD & NE Women’s Clinic. Ria also volunteers with the Women’s Centre of Calgary and the Children’s Cottage Society. Ria has a strong understanding of how empowering women promotes family and community well-being, and how this empowerment can help break the cycle of poverty.

In her spare time, Ria enjoys trying new restaurants, playing piano, and spending time with friends and family.
